God is Like a Six-Pack
“It’s so hot.” You think to yourself.
Sweat trickles down your face. Your mouth is parched, and swallowing is hard. It feels like your insides are boiling and your clothes are soaked.
The sun has begun to burn your skin.
You know you’ll have blisters tomorrow. People keep bumping into you as you walk around the wide-open field. The air is filled with the aroma mix of cotton candy, burgers, sweaty boys, and the line of porta potties.
“Why do we do this every 4th of July?” you shake your head as you remember the modern invention called air conditioning waiting for you at home.
You spot a drink stand and run over. “One please.”
You reach into the ice and pull out your favorite refreshment and pop the tab, “TCHKK PFSHHHH.”
Raising the can to your mouth you savor the cold can on your lips hesitating before taking a gulp. A smile forms on your lips as the cold runs down your mouth into your overheated body. Suddenly your surroundings all seem bearable, festive, and even enjoyable.
When life heats up our souls are searching for a way out, a way to calm and release the discomfort.
There is but one place we can run and experience a cooling down of our spirit.
My soul is dry and thirsts for You, True God, as a deer thirsts for water.
- Psalm 42:1 (Voice)
Our world exhausts us and pushes us all closer to the flames of hell each day.
We are confronted with the sweet moments of victory, relationships, and salvation one moment and then assaulted with the filth of our sins and the disregard of God in our world.
Jesus is calling you to get relief,
Jesus: “I am the bread that gives life. If you come to My table and eat, you will never go hungry. Believe in Me, and you will never go thirsty.”
– John 6:34 (Voice)
If you are bankrupt spiritually God still calls out to you, welcoming you to experience Him.
Eternal One: “If you are thirsty, come here; come, there’s water for all. Whoever is poor and penniless can still come and buy the food I sell. There’s no cost—here, have some food, hearty and delicious, and beverages, pure and good.”
– Isaiah 55:1 (Voice)
The cooling of our spirits is there to help us endure to the end so we can experience the show that comes at the end. We endure because we know there it’ll be worth it.
“On that day, with a command that thunders into the world, with a voice of a chief heavenly messenger, and with a blast of God’s trumpet, the Lord Himself will descend from heaven; and all those who died in the Anointed One, our Liberating King, will rise from the dead first.” - 1 Thessalonians 4:16 (Voice)
Some will hide from it, be scared of the explosion in the sky.
15 Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us[a] from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!
- Revelation 6:15-16 (NIV)
But not us, we will embrace it, it is what we’ve been waiting for our entire lives.
Just like a refreshing beverage from a six-pack can quench our thirst, so too does God promise to extinguish the heat pressing in on us and bring sweet relief to our souls so we can endure until the end.
